Lifting & Shift Equipment

This course has been developed to meet the industry requirement for competent personnel responsible for the inspection, testing, and management of lifting and shifting equipment within operational environments, including hire, construction, industrial, and maintenance sectors. This programme is designed for individuals responsible for inspection, maintenance, and compliance within lifting equipment operations. Lifting equipment presents a high-risk category of work equipment where failure, misuse, or inadequate inspection can result in serious injury, fatality, or significant asset damage. This programme provides learners with the knowledge, skills, and applied competence required to ensure lifting equipment is safe, compliant, and fit for purpose throughout its operational lifecycle. The course supports organisations in meeting statutory obligations relating to lifting operations, inspection regimes, and maintenance systems, ensuring traceability, accountability, and audit compliance across equipment use. Relevant legislation includes, but is not limited to: Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974, Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations (LOLER) 1998, Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998, Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 and Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000 (where applicable). This course aligns with National Occupational Standards (NOS), including but not limited to: 1. Carry out condition monitoring of plant and equipment, 2. Carry out fault diagnosis on plant and equipment, 3. Carry out preventative planned maintenance on plant and equipment, 4. Carry out corrective maintenance activities on plant and equipment, 5. Carry out inspection and testing of engineering systems and equipment, 6. LEEA NOS (Lifting Equipment Engineers Association standards) relating to lifting equipment inspection, examination, and compliance. The programme ensures learners can apply inspection and testing processes in accordance with legal, organisational, and industry requirements, while operating within defined professional boundaries and contributing to safe lifting operations.
