On the December 4th 2018 UK Rural Skills were invited to give evidence on education & skills issues to inform the important work of the House of Lords Select Committee on the Rural Economy. UKRS director Jo Bruce attended the session which was held in the Houses of Parliament.
The results of the process of the select committee's interviews were formulated into the report "Time for a strategy for the rural economy" which was published in April and can be read here - https://publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld201719/ldselect/ldrurecon/330/33002.htm
Following the publishing of the report the Government has just sent its official response which can be found here: https://bit.ly/2RQ5gXp
A debate will shortly take place in the House of Lords on the report and the Government's response, at which the Chairman will speak and the minister will respond.
We will keep you updated with future progress.
It was a big honour for UK Rural Skills to participate in the evidence sessions. We'll be watching attentively to see if ours and all other participants contributions can help lead to the Government developing a rural strategy that will help realise the potential of rural economies.
