The Fresh Start Land Enterprise Centre (community interest company) supports new entrants and entrepreneurs starting up farming businesses or developing existing businesses via a combination of business academies, mentoring and agricultural business matchmaking e.g. joint ventures. Working with the support of numerous industry partners, the ultimate aim is to provide sustainable farm and rural businesses.
The academies provide specialist business training for the agricultural and rural enterprise sector and cover elements such as business plans, raising capital, finance and cash flow and marketing, all delivered from an agricultural perspective. Key and often difficult issues surrounding succession and new entrant start-ups can be discussed and innovative ways found to work towards securing a sound business. 40+ academies have seen 700+ people go through the process and specialist sector specific academies have also been developed for the pig, dairy, horticulture and uplands sectors.
