Animal Care Introductory Course

Animal Care (Introductory Course) has been developed for learners with additional support needs. It aims to provide learners at entry level with the basics of caring for companion animals. There are six units in which the learner will have the opportunity to start to learn the theory behind animal handling; Basic handling techniques, Providing the correct food for different species and the importance of water; the Five Freedoms as set out in the Animal Welfare Act (2006); animal health including health checks and signs of illness, when to refer an animal to the veterinary surgeon and the importance of exercise. It is delivered on a 1;1 basis and can be adapted to suit the individual needs of the learner both in pace and style of delivery.
