This course establishes the minimum requirements for the delivery and assessment of asbestos awareness training for individuals who may encounter asbestos-containing materials during workplace activities.
The programme has been developed to support safe working practices across construction, demolition, maintenance, agriculture, facilities management, utilities, engineering and property-related industries where accidental disturbance of asbestos-containing materials may present significant health risks.
The course provides learners with the knowledge and applied workplace awareness required to identify potential asbestos hazards, understand the health risks associated with asbestos exposure, recognise likely occurrences of asbestos-containing materials and apply appropriate reporting, escalation and avoidance procedures.
This programme does not qualify learners to undertake licensed asbestos removal, remediation or disturbance activities. The focus of this standard is asbestos awareness, risk avoidance and legally compliant workplace behaviour.

1. Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974
2. Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012
3. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
4. COSHH Regulations 2002 (as amended)
5. Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended by the Personal Protective Equipment at Work (Amendment) Regulations 2022)
6. RIDDOR 2013
This Course Standard references relevant National Occupational Standards (NOS) including, but not limited to:
1. Maintaining health, safety and welfare in the workplace
2. Identifying hazardous materials and substances
3. Contributing to workplace risk assessment processes
4. Implementing safe systems of work
5. Communicating workplace health and safety information
6. Responding to workplace emergencies and incidents
