Emergency First Aid at Work + F (Forestry First Aid)

Emergency First Aid at Work + F (Forestry First Aid) is a competence-based emergency response programme designed for individuals working within forestry, woodland management, arboriculture, timber harvesting, estate management, conservation and associated land-based sectors where emergency medical assistance may be delayed due to remote working locations.

The standard provides learners with the knowledge, practical skills and operational competence required to respond effectively to life-threatening injuries and medical emergencies commonly encountered within forestry environments. Particular emphasis is placed upon severe haemorrhage, traumatic injury, crush injury, hypothermia, heat-related illness and tick-related health risks.

The course reflects Forestry Commission recommendations relating to emergency first aid provision for forestry workers and supports the development of practical emergency response competence for individuals working within remote, high-risk and land-based operational environments. The standard supports employers in meeting their duties under:
1. Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
2. Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 (as amended 2013).
3. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
4. Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013.
5. Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended).
6. Forestry Industry Safety Accord (FISA) guidance.
7. Current Resuscitation Council (UK) guidance as implemented Jan 2026.

The standard aligns with National Occupational Standards (NOS) including but not limited to:
1. Provide emergency first aid in the workplace.
2. Maintain health, safety and welfare in the workplace.
3. Apply emergency procedures and casualty management techniques.
4. Respond to emergency incidents and situations.
5. Assess workplace risks and implement appropriate control measures.
6. Communicate effectively during emergency response situations.
7. Maintain records and report workplace incidents appropriately.
8. Maintain health, safety and environmental good practice within land-based industries.

This Course Standard has been developed as a UKRS-accredited competence-based training and assessment standard designed to support emergency first aid provision and operational competence within forestry, woodland management, arboriculture and associated land-based industries. It is not an Ofqual-regulated qualification and does not constitute an RQF Level 3 Award, SCQF qualification or regulated first aid qualification.

Unlike regulated qualifications overseen by Ofqual (England), Qualifications Wales or SQA Accreditation (Scotland), this UKRS Course Standard operates as an industry-aligned accredited training standard. UKRS operates as an independent accreditation and course standardisation body for non-regulated industry training standards.

Training providers delivering this standard remain responsible for ensuring that delivery, assessment, instructor competence and quality assurance arrangements remain appropriate, current and aligned with relevant workplace first aid legislation, Forestry Commission recommendations, FISA guidance and operational requirements.
