Essential Hound Handling

The Hound Handling Course aims to teach people the basic and essential skills involved with working with hounds in kennels and in the field. It will also cover the practicalities of kennel routine and the principles of looking after a pack of hounds (Beagles, Foxhounds and Harriers). The course will be mainly practical with some theoretical presentations as well. All candidates will have a chance during the course to practice their skills with the hounds. The course is designed for amateur whippers in; part time hunt staff; volunteers who work in kennels on regular basis or work to provide holiday cover; young hunt staff as well as young people potentially wanting to go into hunt service in the future. The course primarily covers areas such as the principles of working with hounds, hound handling and kennel routine.
