This UKRS Course provides a competence-based training and assessment programme for individuals required to safely select, inspect, prepare, operate, maintain and store handheld power tools within workplace environments.
Handheld power tools are widely used throughout construction, maintenance, facilities management, land-based industries, utilities, manufacturing and general workplace operations. Incorrect equipment selection, inadequate maintenance, poor operational technique or failure to implement appropriate risk controls can result in serious injury, equipment damage, environmental harm and legal non-compliance.
This programme has been developed to provide learners with the knowledge, practical skills and judgement required to safely undertake handheld power tool operations whilst maintaining compliance with legal, organisational and manufacturer requirements.

2. Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER) 1998
3. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
4. Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended)
5. Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005
6. Control of Vibration at Work Regulations 2005
7. Electricity at Work Regulations 1989
8. Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013
9. Environmental Protection Act 1990.
National Occupational Standards (NOS) referenced include, but are not limited to the descriptors relating to:
1. Maintaining health, safety and welfare during work activities
2. Preparing and maintaining work equipment for operational use
3. Using portable powered equipment safely and effectively
4. Carrying out equipment inspections and operational checks
5. Contributing to environmental protection and sustainable working practices
6. Maintaining tools, equipment and working areas.
This UKRS Course Standard is a non-regulated competence-based training and assessment programme and does not constitute an Ofqual-regulated qualification, RQF qualification, SCQF qualification or formal regulated award. Certification is issued in accordance with UKRS accreditation requirements and must not be represented as a regulated qualification issued by an Ofqual-recognised Awarding Organisation.
