This competence-based Manual Handling Course Standard has been developed to provide learners with the underpinning knowledge, practical skills and operational judgement required to safely carry out manual handling activities within a range of workplace environments.
The programme supports employers, employees and contractors in reducing the risk of musculoskeletal injury, unsafe handling practices, lost-time incidents and operational inefficiency associated with poor manual handling activities. Delivery focuses on the practical application of safe handling principles, dynamic risk assessment, safe systems of work and workplace communication within realistic operational contexts.
This Course Standard should be read alongside HSE guidance L23 Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992: Guidance on Regulations (4th edition).
