This training course aims to give trainees understanding of the basic skills required to use a scythe effectively. Trainees will learn how to set up and use a scythe in an ergonomic and efficient way, including blade sharpening and scythe maintenance. The course will cover organising mowing tasks appropriate to the scythe. The course will also include the simple safety precautions needed to use a scythe safely. The course will contain a mix of theoretical and practical elements. The length and depth of training may vary depending on the knowledge and previous experience of the trainees, on the ratio of trainees to instructor, and on worksite conditions for mowing. One day as: • foundation course for novices • refresher or improver course for experienced mowers • peening (blade maintenance) and refresher for experienced mowers
