180 Degree Excavator (Digger)

This course is designed for individuals who are required to safely prepare, operate and maintain a 180 Degree Excavator within construction, utilities, agriculture, forestry, grounds maintenance, civil engineering, land-based and associated operational environments.

The programme provides learners with the knowledge, practical skills and occupational competence required to inspect, prepare, manoeuvre, excavate, load, stockpile, shut down and secure a 180 Degree Excavator in accordance with safe systems of work and organisational requirements.

Learners will develop competence through tutor-led theory, practical hands-on machine operation, supervised workplace activities and scenario-based learning designed to replicate realistic operating conditions. Emphasis is placed upon hazard identification, risk management, machine stability, excavation techniques, environmental awareness, workplace communication, equipment inspection and operational safety.

Successful learners will be able to apply their skills within a range of workplace environments where excavation, loading, stockpiling, trenching and groundworks activities are undertaken using 180 Degree Excavators.

The course supports employers and operators in meeting legal duties relating to competence, workplace transport safety, machinery operation and safe systems of work whilst reducing the risks associated with plant movement, excavation activities, underground services, overturning incidents, collisions, environmental damage and operator error.
