This conversion training course aims to provide trainees with the knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to safely operate counterbalance forklift trucks up to 5,000kg capacity. It is designed for experienced operators who are already trained on a different truck type and need to convert their skills to counterbalance operations.
Trainees will be introduced to the specific characteristics of counterbalance trucks, including differences in stability, load handling, and manoeuvrability. The course covers operating the truck both laden and unladen, stacking and de-stacking at various heights, and handling loads safely and efficiently in a range of workplace environments.
Trainees will cover daily pre-use inspections, refuelling or recharging procedures, safe load handling techniques, and the hazards and risks associated with counterbalance operations, including stability, load security, visibility, and working in proximity to pedestrians and other workplace transport. The course also includes safe systems of work and compliance with relevant health and safety legislation.
The length of training may vary depending on the objectives covered, the ratio of trainee to instructor, and the ability and previous experience of the trainees. The delivery of training includes a combination of theoretical instruction and practical exercises.
