This course is designed for employees who drive as part of their work and require an understanding of driver fatigue, its effects on driving performance and the measures that can be taken to manage fatigue and reduce associated road safety risks.
The course explores common causes and contributing factors of fatigue and considers how tiredness can affect concentration, alertness, reaction times, judgement and overall driving performance. It highlights the importance of recognising the signs of fatigue and understanding when it may no longer be safe to continue driving.
The course also considers practical approaches to managing and preventing driver fatigue, including appropriate rest and sleep, journey planning, taking suitable breaks and maintaining healthy lifestyle habits. It supports learners in recognising their responsibility for managing their own fitness to drive and taking appropriate action where fatigue could affect their safety or the safety of other road users.
