Emergency First Aid at Work is a competence-based workplace first aid programme designed to provide learners with the practical skills, underpinning knowledge and operational confidence required to respond appropriately to emergency first aid incidents within a workplace or community environment. The standard has been developed to support employers, organisations, volunteers and designated first aid personnel in meeting their responsibilities for immediate emergency response, casualty care and escalation procedures following workplace incidents or sudden illness. The course reflects the need for proportionate workplace first aid provision across a range of industries and operational environments where employees or responsible persons may be required to preserve life, minimise deterioration and support casualty welfare prior to the arrival of emergency medical services. Delivery and assessment are aligned to current industry guidance, emergency response principles and safe casualty management procedures including, but not limited to: 1. Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 - these regulations were amended in 2013 by the Health and Safety (Miscellaneous Revocations and Amendments) Regulations 2013, removing the requirement for HSE to approve first aid training providers (from 1 October 2013).
