Health and Safety Employee Update

The Health and Safety Employee Update programme has been developed to provide learners with current knowledge, practical understanding and workplace competence relating to health and safety responsibilities, risk management and safe working practices within modern working environments.

The programme supports employees, supervisors, team leaders and operational personnel who are required to work safely, contribute to organisational health and safety arrangements and comply with workplace procedures designed to protect themselves, colleagues, contractors, visitors and members of the public.

Poor health and safety management remains a significant cause of workplace accidents, incidents, ill health, lost productivity, enforcement action and reputational damage. This programme provides learners with the knowledge and competence required to identify hazards, evaluate risks, implement control measures, communicate safety information effectively and respond appropriately to workplace incidents and emergencies.

The programme aligns with the principles and requirements contained within relevant legislation including, but not limited to:
1. Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
2. Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999.
3. Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992.
4. Personal Protective Equipment at Work Regulations 1992 (as amended).
5. Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
6. Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations (RIDDOR) 2013.
7. Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations (COSHH) 2002.
8. Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005

The standard has been informed by National Occupational Standards (NOS) including but not limited to:
1. Maintaining Health, Safety and Security in the Working Environment.
2. Contributing to Health and Safety in the Workplace.
3. Monitoring and Maintaining Health, Safety and Security.
4. Promoting a Positive Health and Safety Culture.
5. Risk Assessment and Risk Control Activities.
6. Communicating Health and Safety Information within the Workplace.
7. Responding to Workplace Emergencies and Incidents.

The programme supports the development of a proactive safety culture by enabling learners to apply health and safety principles consistently, identify opportunities for improvement and contribute positively to safe and effective workplace operations.
