Health & Safety in the Workplace is a competence-based training and assessment programme designed to develop the knowledge, skills and judgement required to contribute effectively to workplace health, safety and welfare arrangements.
The programme supports employees, supervisors, team leaders and managers who are required to identify hazards, assess risks, implement controls, monitor workplace safety performance and contribute to organisational compliance with statutory health and safety duties.
Poor health and safety management remains a significant contributor to workplace accidents, occupational ill health, environmental incidents, enforcement action and organisational loss. Effective health and safety competence enables individuals to recognise hazards, evaluate risks and implement proportionate control measures to protect themselves, colleagues, contractors, visitors and members of the public.
This standard supports the development of practical workplace competence rather than attendance-based awareness training and provides learners with the ability to contribute positively to organisational safety performance and legal compliance.
