Self Contained Breathing Apparatus for Specialist Responders

This training course aims to give trainees knowledge, understanding and basic skills in self-contained breathing apparatus for specialist responders. It introduces trainees to the hazards and risks involved with breathing apparatus for specialist responders and to comply with health and safety legislation. Specialist responders operate in dynamic and at times hazardous environments e.g. incidents involving chemicals, biological hazards and radiation. The wearing of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and Gas Tight Protection Suit (GTPS) by personnel is one of the risk control measures likely to be deployed within the overall operational plan for incidents of this type. Breathing apparatus enables the wearer to breathe safely in an otherwise irrespirable and/or toxic atmosphere.
